Snake Eyes (2021)

Updated: Aug 23, 2021

My quick rating - 5,2/10. I swear they have already given us the origin of Snake Eyes in one of the GI Joe flicks. But let's say that didn't happen. We already know that he was a white dude who was a very righteous person. So what in the world happened in this movie? All of a sudden he is Malaysian (Henry Golding) and a complete two-faced thief. Throughout the movie, you are rooting against him up until the very end since he is essentially the "bad" guy and the character who ends up being storm shadow is the good one. Not sure if they purposely ruined the actual origin story for some reason, but it just didn't work. This is just a start though since the casting for this movie from top to bottom was just plain awful. Not bad actors, just wrong for their parts. Úrsula Corberó as the baroness was horrible and Samara Weaving as Scarlet was just wrong. The action is just so hit or miss that there is no scene that you will even remember when finished. For a summer blockbuster you need those well choreographed scenes to grab you and this flick just didn't deliver in the slightest. The more I type, the lower the score goes. Never a good sign. I must admit I was looking forward to a proper story for Snake Eyes and by the credits, I felt like someone punched me in the face. And to add insult to injury, there is a sequel lead in at the end. Cannot see that happening with how disappointing this was and how it performed at the box office.
