My quick rating - 5,6/10. Have no idea what this one is about. Sounds fun though. Click below if you want to play as well. I was entertained by this indie flick. The premise is simple enough and familiar if you have seen Jumanji. This game is just a darker version of that. The cast consists of basically 4 players and is cast quite well. Each has their own secrets that the game is going to slowly and emotionally painfully drag out of them to tell their story. The main character played by our writer Jim Mahoney is in the middle of a messy divorce, and his friends get together to attempt to cheer him up. But when one of their friends Jon Bass decides to all play a board game aptly named our title. But once they begin playing, and drinking plenty, they soon realize that the game may be playing them. It unfolds well enough and slowly drags them in without being obvious what is going on but it then adds elements that start to become apparent to them that more is going on than just a social booze-guzzling game. You must abide by the rules and always be honest because if you lie, the game punishes you. At first, these are simple lose-a-turn type things but slowly the consequences become more severe. The tone is dark but I disagree with any "horror" being tagged into this as it really doesn't get anywhere near that realm but sticks to the dark and mean-spirited comedy. This is one of those that is worth the watch but I sincerely doubt you would be returning for a second viewing. Once the story has been unpacked, that surprise will be lost. I'll be keeping it around for others to check out since it is rare that an indie can deliver against a major blockbuster in the idea and still hold its own. Enjoy!
