Hellkat (2021)

My quick rating - 3.5/10. A fun idea, not necessarily a good idea, but had the makings of something entertaining, gets marred by poor performances. The idea of being forced into fighting it out in the ring for amusement to determine your fate in the afterlife is kind of funny. Your atonement is with your fists, and it seems if you are "iffy" as far as heaven or hell is concerned, you can kickbox your way through the pearly gates. Of course, this movie does focus on the gatekeeper to the south of heaven (shameless Slayer reference) and has a pretty well-acted character for this. So, where does this go wrong? Horrible fight choreography, terrible acting, and no actual development of the idea itself. I may have even filled in some of the finer plot points for these filmmakers. Too bad, though, it may have been good if some of the story had been addressed, and especially if they had someone who could fight at all. Oh, and someone on the payroll who can create some decent demon-looking combatants. They never explain where the opponents come from lol. I am realizing more and more why the rating does stick.
