House Of Darkness (2022)

Updated: Jan 12, 2023

My quick rating - 3,5/10. Well, the first 40 minutes is just straight-up dialogue between two people, and even though I am a fan of Justin Long what they were discussing wasn't exactly thrilling banter. Nor was the flick fooling me with thinking something was going to happen. 80 minutes of the 88 minutes is talking. Sorry for the spoiler but it is just plain boring and misleading. The whole movie is based around Long giving a lift home to Kate Bosworth and as the two playfully flirt back and forth, the plans for seduction slowly, and I mean slowly, lead to strange conversations and constant lights flickering. I think the power issues is supposed to be a sign, or a scare, I am not sure. As the evening progresses, a sister is added to the mix, so we can now see Long imagining the possibilities here as I am sure you can see where this is going. But then again, if you couldn't figure out where this actually was going long before, you were missing the point. I personally found the whole thing to be quite tedious and was in no way surprised at all. Often the dialogue is so far off of anything that would be spoken in the real world that you are kind of embarrassed to think the writers put this out on purpose. Sure, they were supposed to be drunk but still. Not even sure if it felt like a movie and more just the first act of a play, and then an end tacked on to say it is over. Speaking of over, so is this review. There are good movies waiting.
