House Of Inequity (2023)

Updated: Jun 17, 2023

My quick rating - 3,9/10. Going in blind on this one but this flick is an Australian horror film that takes a group of friends on a terrifying journey into an abandoned house. Unfortunately, despite some promising ideas, the film falls short in execution, ultimately delivering a disappointing experience. One of the film's major drawbacks is the characters' consistently bad decision-making. It's frustrating to watch as they make one poor choice after another, which ultimately leads them deeper into danger. While this is a common trope in horror films, "House of Inequity" takes it to an extreme, making it difficult to sympathize with the characters or become emotionally invested in their plight. The film does have some interesting ideas, particularly when it comes to exploring personal fears. The concept of the house manifesting each character's deepest fears could have been a compelling aspect of the story. However, the execution of these ideas often feels underdeveloped and lacking in suspense. The scares are predictable and fail to build genuine tension, resulting in missed opportunities to truly frighten the audience. Another disappointing aspect of House of Inequity is the wasted potential of its setting being down here in Australia. The film fails to capitalize on the unique environment and cultural elements that could have added depth and flavor to the story. Instead, it feels like a missed opportunity to create a distinct and memorable horror experience. On a positive note, the film does showcase some decent cinematography and atmospheric visuals. The abandoned house itself is suitably eerie, and the cinematography captures its decaying, unsettling atmosphere effectively. However, these visual aspects alone are not enough to salvage the overall experience. It may still appeal to die-hard horror fans or those interested in Australian cinema, but ultimately falls short of delivering a satisfying and memorable experience.

You can find this one on a few streamers for $5.
