My quick rating - 6,1/10. The only thing I know about this one is that Robert Rodriguez is at the helm and to me, that is enough to run with. It is a mystery/thriller that follows a detective (Ben Affleck) on a quest to unravel a perplexing case involving his missing daughter and a clandestine government program. With its nice twists, clever plot, and uneven acting, the film offers an engaging but imperfect viewing experience. One of the highlights for me is Rodriguez's directorial prowess. Known for his unique visual style and ability to infuse excitement into his projects, Rodriguez brings his signature touch to this film. His distinct visual flair and attention to detail elevate the overall atmosphere, adding depth and intrigue to the story. It weaves a complex web of mystery and suspense, keeping you guessing until the very end. The film introduces intriguing concepts related to psionic powers and the human mind, creating a sense of intrigue and unpredictability. The clever twists and turns serve as the backbone of the narrative, making it an engaging watch for fans of the genre. However, Affleck falls short with his uneven acting. While some scenes are compelling and add depth to the characters, others feel lacking in emotional resonance. This inconsistency can be a distraction at times, preventing the viewer from fully immersing themselves in the story. If you're a fan of mysteries and thrillers that try to give you that "mindf%*k" type feeling, this flick is worth checking out for its intriguing twists and captivating storytelling. I did get a whiff of the classic Hitchcock thriller, Vertigo while I was watching. I would think that there was a bit of inspiration lifted form there, just not nearly to that level of film.
