My quick rating - 5,5/10. The movie starts on a promising note, setting the stage with a familiar yet engaging storyline. While the plot lacks originality, the film manages to capture the attention with decent acting performances and stunning landscapes. It provides a solid foundation to build upon and creates a good initial impression.
The story revolves around Madison (Emily Tennant), a social media influencer, who embarks on a solo backpacking trip in Thailand. During her journey, she encounters CW (Cassandra Naud), a carefree traveler who effortlessly navigates through life. CW introduces Madison to a more uninhibited way of living, challenging her perspectives and pushing her boundaries. However, as the plot unfolds, CW's interest in Madison takes a darker turn, leading to unexpected consequences. One of the flix strengths lies in the competent acting displayed by the cast. The performers manage to bring their characters to life, injecting a sense of authenticity into their roles. Their portrayals contribute to the believability of the story and add depth to the overall viewing experience. Moreover, the movie takes advantage of its picturesque setting in Thailand. The breathtaking landscapes serve as a visual treat, immersing the audience in the beauty of the country. The cinematography captures the essence of the exotic locations, enhancing the film's aesthetic appeal and providing a backdrop that keeps viewers engaged. Unfortunately, despite its initial promise, I found it falters towards the end. The plot becomes predictable, following a path that lacks innovation or surprise. The story's climax and resolution fall short of delivering a satisfying conclusion, leaving you with a feeling of disappointment. The film fails to capitalize on the potential it had established earlier, leaving viewers with a sense of missed opportunity. Overall, the flick presents a mixed bag of strengths and weaknesses. While it starts strongly with decent acting and captivating visuals, it eventually succumbs to a predictable and unsatisfying conclusion. Despite that, the movie may still appeal to those who appreciate picturesque scenery and competent performances. However, for those seeking a truly memorable and innovative cinematic experience, II thought it fell short of what it initially brought to the table. Had it done almost anything but what it did for the second half, I would've been far more impressed but writer/director Kurtis David Harder just played things a bit too safe in my opinion.
