Johnny Z (2023)

My quick rating - 3.6/10. A half-human, half-zombie named Johnny (Michael Merchant) pursues the malevolent corporation responsible for his creation. With the expert guidance of a seasoned martial arts master (Cortés), he seeks justice and retribution. It seems someone (Jonathan Straiton) has been watching a bit too much MMA and decided to incorporate that into their zombie cage matches. Félix Cortés as Jonray gets plenty of performance time on camera demonstrating his martial arts prowess. And by plenty I mean an elongated workout session in a field that runs way too long. I thought that was a one-time thing, but this shadowboxing keeps happening although now the imprisoned zombie gets involved as well. This is how the unlikely pairing of the zombie warrior Johnny/Patient Zero that everyone is looking for starts training together. Lame ending. Setting up a sequel is one thing but this was more of a cop out to finish this flick.
