Killer Kites (2023)

Updated: Sep 23, 2023

My quick rating - 3,2/10. I read something about this one a while ago, time to see why I had it on Radarr for so long. Never mind the obvious low budget, the editing in this is horrible. Some of it is literally pressing the pause/play button on the video camera. I am also quite sure much of the dialogue is improvised and this group isn't really witty enough to pull that off. The scary thing is during the credits there are some outtakes which proves that at least some of the lines were scripted. Abby (Manon Pages) seems a bit confused about her own accent which comes and goes throughout the movie. Maybe that is one of the many inside jokes in this one. Speaking of, when Abby’s grandma dies, the only thing she inherits is a stupid kite. After giving it to her brother, he is mysteriously killed and the kite disappears. While searching for the truth, Abby is tangled in a strange supernatural plot, where this killer kite continues to kill. Now, Abby must string together a way to stop the kite before it blows us all away. The jokes in this flick just like me injecting kite puns aren't the dumbest thing you have read, but they’re up there. The kites then seem to band together into a group to go around killing people which appears to be for no reason until later on when a sinister plot is revealed. I am positive that Austin Frosch thought this was the funniest thing ever when he wrote it. Not everyone is going to agree with this sentiment. The gore is not there at all and this cannot be solely blamed on budget. There was little creatively done that would warrant consideration. The laughs from that get old really fast as the kites whisk by and people are falling to the ground, dead. I am sure the cast had fun making this film, a lot more than I did watching it. Aside from a few chuckles at the crew along with a few along with them, there isn't a lot to recommend. And if you are here for the horror, do not bother. There is none to be had. The good news is the price is right directly below if you are like me and just have to watch everything.

You can watch free with ads on Tubi or pay a dollar on Amazon.
