My quick rating - 4.4/10. This flick tells the story of a devoted single mother, Martha (Tamara Mazarrasa) embarking on a perilous journey to save her kidnapped daughter, defying all odds and risking everything to bring her home safely. Definitely a familiar premise but the film falls short of expectations due to its poor editing and lackluster execution. One of the most glaring issues with this flick is its disjointed editing, which detracts from the overall viewing experience. Scenes feel disconnected, jumping around without clear continuity, and hindering the audience's ability to become fully immersed in the story. As a result, the pacing suffers, and the plot fails to progress as smoothly as the dialogue would suggest. While Mazarrasa delivers a committed performance as Martha, the film struggles to make her character and her plight believable. Despite her valiant efforts to portray a determined and desperate mother, the lack of cohesion in the storytelling undermines the emotional impact of her journey. As a result, Martha's struggles feel more contrived than genuine, robbing the film of its potential emotional resonance. There was also very little in the way of originality, relying on tropes and clichés that have been explored countless times before in similar stories. While there is certainly merit in revisiting familiar themes, the film fails to bring anything new or compelling to the table, leaving you with a sense of déjà vu rather than genuine engagement. If you are looking for a gripping tale of maternal determination, "La Madre" may leave you rather disappointed.
Looks like this one is only available on TubiTV at the moment.
