Last Night At Terrace Lanes

Writer's picture: Justin WhippoJustin Whippo

My quick rating - 4.0/10. Young heroine Kennedy (Francesca Capaldi) and her friends find themselves at Terrace Lanes on its last night of operation. When chaos breaks out, Kennedy and her father Bruce (Ken Arnold) must come together to try and save their friends and survive the night. Nice early 90s horror feel to it. Creepy cult attack that looked great when it first is introduced. This one started off very strong then just slid straight downhill into a massive letdown of a climax. This flick takes us on a nostalgic trip back to the early 90s with its classic horror vibes. The stage is set for a spine-chilling experience as chaos erupts and a creepy cult attack unfolds, promising thrills reminiscent of beloved horror classics. From the outset, the film grips you with its atmospheric tension and well-executed scares. The introduction of the cult adds an intriguing layer of mystery and menace. The early scenes are promising, evoking a sense of dread and anticipation that sets the tone for what could have been a memorable horror flick. The characters were all played decent enough for this type of flick and Capaldi stood her ground as the heroine. Early on the humor works in a fitting bowling alley sort of way. However, despite its strong start, the production ultimately fails to deliver its initial promise. As the story progresses, the tension dissipates, and the narrative loses its momentum, culminating in a disappointing climax that falls flat. What begins as a promising homage to classic horror quickly devolves into a formulaic and uninspired conclusion, and left me feeling underwhelmed and unsatisfied. For fans of the genre, it's a missed opportunity to recapture the magic of classic horror films. On the comedy side, you will find yourself more often laughing at the movie as opposed to along with it since as I said, once it gets going downhill, it gets pretty bad. The father gets increasingly more annoying instead of endearing as it wears on. The flick succumbs to clichés and lacks the payoff needed to make it a truly worthwhile experience.
