My quick rating - 5,6/10. When you have a low budget, you need to rely on being clever in your writing, or very imaginative with the camera. This one seemed to follow the "nothing is what it seems" style of twists and turns to keep you on your toes. I thought Annabel Barrett as our damsel in distress among other things did a good job. Although I swear at one point it looked like she was cracking up during a scene she was supposed to be fearing for her life. Blame editing I suppose. The story starts out as a strange behavioral study of how humans react to being treated like animals. Hence the title. But layer after layer of this continues to be presented to you and even though some of it is predictable, director Randy Van Dyke didn't want to just stop with one "AHA" moment. And since this plays off of characters that nearly everyone will identify with knowing, be it the jock, or narcissistic cheerleader type among others, you'll be curious as to why and where this one is going. This one really just straddles the line between horror and thriller. Your horror movie tropes are almost all missing for one. So this isn't a torture porn flick and does not have any gore to speak of. You'll have to find some of those odd foreign flicks if you want to see women being treated like dogs in a disgusting manner. This does NOT go that way at all so don't be concerned. It is nice to find one of those unheard-of flix that actually doesn't suck. It has been a while. Sorry, it is so vague, but if you plan on seeing it, you will enjoy it much more if I leave it that way.
