Moonfall (2022)

Updated: Jun 20, 2022

My quick rating - 5,8/10. The trendy things to do is completely dog on this and say Roland Emmerich just can't make good flix anymore. I found amusement seeing these comments since the sheeple most likely are so busy watching the lemming in front to not realize his last movie was Midway, which was pretty damn good. And if you roll up and down his filmography, I bet you'll be pleased with most. I did say MOST (everyone but me hated his take on Godzilla). With that aside, I liked this flick for a few reasons; It mixed big-budget effects with a completely b-budget script and it made sure that when you thought it couldn't get sillier, it does. The conspiracy theory that is created in this is just slightly below the nonsense that Taylor-Greene comes up with but it is still very creative. The main point of this is a strange occurrence knocks the moon from its normal orbit and is going to collide with Earth. Much of the movie consists of all the natural disasters that would occur if this did happen including city-destroying tidal waves and insane flux in the weather across the globe. But with all of this happening, there need to be characters trying to get to a safe place while there are also those that are attempting to save the planet. Brian Harper (Patrick Wilson) is a disgraced astronaut who saves a space shuttle mission but returns home to instead be blamed for human error and betrayed by fellow astronaut Jocinda Fowler (Halle Berry). All of this will become important later on except in reality I doubt you'll really invest much into them since all the characters seemed like stand-ins just doing what is expected without any emotional investment. Minus John Bradley who saves scenes singlehandedly throughout with his geeky comic relief as the nerd who discovered what was going on long before the government caught wind of it. Most of the movie is about running around trying to survive while horrible climate-induced disasters are occurring. And then the whole thing is turned completely original yet totally creative crazed conspiracy of what the Moon actually is LOL. And if you suspend all parts of your brain that process rational thinking, it is a LOT of fun theories they come up with. No spoilers so I'll leave you with that. Complete popcorn flick that is way out there and I found it pretty damn entertaining. Click the poster below if you'd like to check it out on Amazon.
