Night Of The Bastard (2022)

Updated: Jan 30, 2023

My quick rating - 4,7/10. It isn't that this is a good movie but it grew on me. It has a sort of grindhouse feel like the 70-80s horror flix when they focused on the satanic cults being the main source of evil. Nostalgia aside, the plot is pretty much paper thin. A group of people is attacked in the middle of nowhere by a cult and one of them escapes to some secluded house. Our heroine (Mya Hudson) meets a typical character London May who is forced into being the hero. Side note, I wouldn't have known this by his name but I read he is the drummer/bassist in Danzig's band Samhain. If that is a selling point for you, there you go. So shortly after arriving, the cult arrives led by, the either sexy or supposed to be sexy depending on your taste, Hannah Pierce. From here we are subjected to your standard trapped in the home flick where the cult refuses to leave without the girl. Luckily this one doesn't get bogged down in dragging this out for too long. The normal attempts to enter the place, fighting back, etc. The practical effects are fun for the gore but nothing overt. they did find a way to twist this a bit as the story goes on but it was slightly a stretch just for the sake of the shock. Still, there was something about the whole presentation that had me entertained even without it being a phenomenal flick. May ends up being extremely likable in this role when I at first just kind of chuckled at the stereotype that he was playing. More a recommendation for the right crowd of viewers and you know by now if you are in that group.

A couple of streamers have this one for $5.99 including Amazon by clicking the poster.
