My quick rating - 6,8/10. I can tell you exactly what happened with this movie. In 2016, some people made a near masterpiece of a zombie flick no one saw coming out of Korea. The next year, one of the biggest blockbusters hit Asia called Fate of the Furious. You may wonder what that has to do with it. I'll tell you, the makers of Train to Busan must've seen that movie in 2017 and thought. "Ok, we can merge the two ideas into one now that we have the clearance for that kind of budget." And that is most likely why some people are dogging this one. But often people forget it is about entertainment, not living up to the last, or being the same thing. The same character development is still intact to make you care about who lives and dies although not quite as deep. The zombies are even more aggressive in this one yet still provide us with avalanches of bodies when attempting to feast on the living. The CGI used for scenes (which there is plenty) sometimes looks dumb, yet other times looks great. Weird mix actually. The breakneck speed the director (Sang-ho Yeon) decided to amp up to was very much inspired by the aforementioned flick. And with trying to keep up, some great looking car scenes are on display. This movie also includes an interesting nod to Escape from New York in there as well. Very ambitious to say the least and very enjoyable.
