My quick rating - 5.3/10. It has some truly terrible acting to deal with but if you put that aside, you are treated to a pretty interesting plot. It does revolve around a "haunted" book, but instead of some incantations bringing back the dead, this book seems to read you as you start reading it. So it plays off your own emotions and fears to drive you insane. However it goes beyond that as the plot itself gets pretty crazy. There are a couple of nice appearances by William B. Davis (The Smoking Man on X-Files) and Matt Frewer (Max Headroom) as well. I think with a bigger budget and a lot of polish on this story, you would've had something. Instead, you are left with a mediocre Lovecraftian-looking horror flick with some decent practical effects leaving you with questions by the end.
