Shark Night 3D (2011)

Updated: Oct 19

My quick rating - 3.9/10. I decided to put my Quest 3 to use with this flick hoping for a solid 3D shark attack horror experience, but it didn't quite deliver. The movie suffers from poor acting and lacks intensity, which is disappointing for a creature feature. As for the 3D effects, they feel like an afterthought, only working well in maybe two scenes. The rest of the time, they don't add much to the film's impact minus one airborne shark :) For a horror flick, it's insanely tame. It teases the usual elements—like nudity and gore—but never once gives you boobs and hardly any blood. This makes it a letdown for anyone expecting a thrilling or bloody shark movie. The premise had potential, with an underlying idea involving why the sharks are in a lake, but the execution falls flat. The explanation gets lost in a dull, slow-moving plot that never really picks up. The perpetrators of the scheme are so stereotypical it is amusing and I would be curious to find out if those characters were meant to be a parody of other movies or were supposed to be taken seriously. It’s slightly better than the typical Syfy network fare but still feels like it’s not quite ready for the big leagues. Overall, it's a forgettable experience with a few decent moments but nothing truly memorable and not something I need in my collection to show off Meta's latest toy.

Amazon is the cheapest of the few streamers offering this one.
