My quick rating - 4.7/10. I thought I got a unique twist on the classic Bigfoot legend, offering a blend of crime and suspense instead of the expected horror. This film delves into the fascinating world of tabloid journalism, urban legends, and the lengths people will go to create a compelling story. The plot centers around a tabloid journalist, well portrayed by Tyler Weisenauer, who embarks on a journey to rural America to investigate a man's ambitious quest to capture the elusive sasquatch. What initially seems like a typical creature feature takes an unexpected turn as the film gravitates toward the world of crime and intrigue. For a low-budget flick, it does well in its clever exploration of the blurred lines between truth and fiction. The protagonist's online reputation precedes him, setting the stage for a tense game of cat and mouse. The man behind the trap, armed with his own set of secrets, decides to turn the tables on the journalist, plunging him into a whirlpool of uncertainty. This twist transforms the film into a psychological drama where fear and manipulation replace traditional horror elements. The film's pacing starts strong, unraveling the protagonist's journey with a mix of comedic moments and eerie encounters. The dynamic between Red (Zach Lazar Hoffman) the bigfoot expert and his best friend, who conspire to create a hoax, injects humor and camaraderie into the storyline. However, as the film shifts towards the crime narrative, the pacing occasionally falters, leaving some scenes to feel dragged out and disjointed. Unfortunately, I saw what was coming here way too early on which did dampen the effect of the whole thing. There won't be any spoilers so this may not affect your viewing. Performance-wise, the cast delivers commendable portrayals. The lead actor captures the essence of an ambitious journalist, oscillating between skepticism and intrigue. The man behind the sasquatch trap adds an enigmatic layer to the story, with his calculated demeanor and veiled intentions. The chemistry between the two keeps the viewers guessing about who is truly in control. The movie's visuals and cinematography are a mixed bag. The serene landscapes of rural America provide an apt backdrop for the unfolding mystery, while the sequences depicting the sasquatch's presence lean heavily on suspenseful ambiance. Yet, the film occasionally struggles with maintaining a consistent tone, wavering between its initial comedic atmosphere and the later crime-focused narrative. While the transition between genres isn't always seamless, the exploration of truth versus fabrication and the engaging performances make this film a worthwhile watch for those seeking a fresh perspective on the Bigfoot legend. I had enough fun with it to say it may not be great but it did just enough to keep me entertained.
