My quick rating - 3,9/10. In being a fan of this series, I had not seen this one before. Now I see why I avoided it. What I think this was is a fan-made 20-minute flick that somehow got the attention of Universal Pictures. Not because it was particularly good or bad just that I assume they saw a quick cash grab on a movie they had NOT planned on doing very well at all. But when Pitch Black surprised everyone, myself included, they took this and decided to add some footage from the original movie to fill in some gaps along with some new material to give a tiny bit of backstory about Riddick (Vin Diesel) and how he got to where he was in the film. A tiny bit is a stretch since this really added absolutely nothing and it ended up being more of a mess than a filler to get you to The Chronicles of Riddick. The three mentioned elements are clearly unique to each other in quality and can easily be identified. The acting in what i think is a fan film was pretty bad minus the only character that was worth anything, Lisa Saum playing a hired Merc to locate and take down Riddick. The created bits to add to the story showing Riddick incarcerated and also some psych exams that he had undertaken were passable but as I said, I doubt the crew had anything to do with that I believe that was Universal. Overall, only for big fans and even still you aren't going to get anything out of this. That The Chronicles of Riddick: Dark Fury at least added something to the next movie in a character while this just didn't. Oh, and that score is definitely biased.
