The Djinn (2021)

Updated: May 24, 2021

My quick rating - 4,1/10. This had the premise setup but than really rushed into what should've had a little bit more story to lead into it. You would think maybe explaining how this conjuring of a Djinn is going to work or possibly making it look like just anyone who can read can just whip one up for themselves. But anyway, so this is what happens, and then the rules of the game are told via a narrator throughout the rest of the flick. So are kid is mute and I am sure when he finds a book that can grant you your wish, you can guess what he wants. There is some backstory as well about his parents that isn't described all that well but that isn't too important really. Such as this whole movie is, not really well explained. So Dad is at work, and our boy's new playmate, the Djinn are stuck home and if you know the Djinn story, they aren't all about giving away wishes, they want to kill you. That is your setup, those two, which is a big drawback to this movie. It is just them and in gloriously boring fashion, the Djinn tries to kill him. The technical aspects of this one are all there, and quite good. Just not enough meat to it. The intensity between them is poor and as with all horror movies, the decision making gets beyond ridiculous to extend the whole thing (it would've been a far better short film, and maybe it was to begin with). All that to lead you to a silly ending that may or may not lead into a sequel. I kind of hope not.
