The Nest – aka The Bewailing (2021)

Updated: Jul 12, 2021

My quick rating - 5,1/10. The opening scene really pulls you in and I thought I may have stumbled upon a real winner. Unfortunately it didn't stay at that level. Still for a low budget flick, this one delivers some good creeps. The noise throughout this of the "clicking" the bugs use to communicate will stick with ya. Here we have a family that happens on a garage sale and the daughter has her eyes set on a cute little teddy. Of course, there is nothing innocent about it and shortly after strange things start happening to the family. After the start, the movie really slows down in pacing to just give you little tidbits to piece together what is going on. Not that the plot is all that complex, just the way they wanted to tell the story. Seems one by one, people around Billie (Munroe) start to behave differently while the mother than is being convinved she is losing her mind. Penny Munroe was very convincing in her role as the girl initially taken by the bugs. Not really a spoiler, look at the poster lol. A lot like a body snatcher type effort here with a slow burn to the ultimate goal. 89K for a budget is what this costs and I have seen far more spent on far less quality. This is a good one to pop on your streaming channel of choice. Release date is July 20th so might have to wait to find it. But when you do, not a bad way to spend 100 minutes.
