The Night Sitter (2018)

Updated: Dec 17, 2021

My quick rating - 4,6/10. It made the Xmas horror section because they have their lights up. Think that was the extent of the holiday cheer in this one. This one dropped a couple of decimal points since apparently, I watched it once before. I thought scenes looked familiar so I most likely had it on as background noise. The story is adequate enough, with an innocent babysitter on a gig for some rich paranormal hunter who instead of being the sweet Elyse Dufour, turns out to be there to rob the place. This leads to more of the humor involved since as thieves, she and her buddies are not skating in after their Ocean's Eleven heists, that is for sure. But since the Dad happens to collect artifacts from various sites he has visited and stores them in a locked room you absolutely know the two kids are going to get into that room. Or will the robbers get in there first? Real big question there since it really doesn't matter, you knew from the second the door was shown, someone was getting in. And when they do, the evil Three Mothers are unleashed to murder them all (in fairly tame fashion). A big problem with all of this is it takes a really long time to get going. All the components were presented to us, characters were ready to be killed and it just plods its way along teasing some form of turn to go from mediocre to quality entertainment. Instead, they just throw it into neutral and coast to the end. It really ends up being disappointing since it was on the upswing for a bit and even though they tried to ram it down your throat, this isn't a Xmas classic in the slightest. Just some decorations were strewn about. I never even spotted a tree in the background or the like.
