The Sisters Brothers (2018)

Updated: 7 hours ago

My quick rating - 6,9/10. Nice to see a well-crafted western flick that is a pleasant addition to the genre. The film follows the infamous gunslinging assassins Eli and Charlie Sisters as they chase a gold prospector and his unexpected ally through the Oregon Trail. The film is set in the 1850s, and it captures the era beautifully through its excellent cinematography and attention to detail. The film's standout feature is its great cast, which includes John C. Reilly, Joaquin Phoenix, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Riz Ahmed. Each actor brings depth and nuance to their respective characters, elevating the film beyond a standard western shoot-'em-up. The film's scenery is also breathtaking, as it captures the rugged and unforgiving landscape of the West. While "The Sisters Brothers" is a solid film, it lacks a compelling storyline to truly make it exceptional. The film relies heavily on its characters and their interactions, which can only carry the film so far. Additionally, the film's pacing can be slow at times, which may not appeal to some viewers. Overall, just a solid western that is worth a watch for fans of the genre. Its great cast, scenery, and camerawork make it a well-made film, but its lack of a compelling story prevents it from taken that next step up.
