My quick rating - 4.5/10. After their car breaks down, a couple driving cross-country to begin a new life in the Pacific Northwest is forced to spend the night in a secluded rental, where they are terrorized from dusk till dawn by three masked strangers. So, ladies, if you think someone is sneaking around outside, do you typically decide to take a shower? Not sure who wrote this but some early thoughts make no sense. "Maybe they left. They are fucking with us" Literally just took an axe to the front door and bedroom door, so I am going to guess this is a bit more serious. IMDB lists 3 writers and not one of them mentioned that there is NO way these actions happen in real life. The shower? Really? Good news if you loved this one, it pops up the inevitable "To Be Continued" at the end. Tension is on and off usually off due to stupid decisions. For a movie that is supposed to build suspense, the acting is a LOT of nothing. No kills to speak of. A couple of decent scares.
Here is what MS Copilot had to say when I input my notes from above:
“The Strangers: Chapter One” offers a suspenseful premise, but unfortunately, it falls short in execution. The film suffers from characters making questionable decisions, such as hiding in the shower when they suspect danger outside. The tension fluctuates, often due to these illogical choices. While there are a couple of decent scares, the lack of kills and the unrealistic actions make it hard to fully invest in the story. On the bright side, the film ends with a tantalizing “To Be Continued.”
I'll stick to writing my own reviews. I would say if you are fans of the other Strangers flix, you may be keen to check it out but this one is by far the least entertaining of the bunch.
