My quick rating - 5,9/10. Sometimes a simple IMDB comment like this "Excellent Italian Police Brutality" is enough to sucker me to watching. Since a dubbed option was available, I figured why not. A random hunchbacked character (Tomas Milian)? Definitely an interesting flick if you want to check out what the Italian crime movie scene was like in the mid 1970s. Just some really bizarre scenes in this such as Milian hijacking an ambulance and then killing everyone onboard for no apparent reason to the story or then hopping out and shooting into the crowd for fun. Or Stefano Patrizi leading a group of thugs who get bored and decide to rape some girl then beat the crap out of her boyfriend. Often the scenes just seemed random to the point of humor when there wasn't any intention of it. After looking up some info on this flick, it seems director Umberto Lenzi was quite well known for this exact type of flick before venturing into the world of horror. I didn't realize at the time but Nightmare City was one of his creations along with the reviled Cannibal Ferox. Apparently I was more familiar with his work then I thought although I am sure my memory for names is fleeting by the day LOL. Back to the movie, it follows the tale of a ruthless Inspector played by Maurizio Merli trying to bring down one of Rome's major crimelords. He tends to go at this completely alone and doesn't mind beating anyone into submission that stands in his way. It certainly seems straightforward enough in reaidn the plot but just watching how it unfolds is where all the entertainment value comes from. Lenzi has a knack for bringing you memorable flix from multiple genres as you can tell and this is one of them. I'll be keeping my eye out for more of his works since he definitely knew how to push the buttons to keep you watching.
Amazon is the only game in town for this one, well, and my plex server.
