The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live (2024)

My quick rating - 7.1/10. Way too melodramatic at times. One entire episode was such drama it dragged the other 5 down. This one clearly follows the timeline and immediately follows the romance between Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne (Danai Gurira). At different times during the main show, they were separated from the rest of the group so you weren't really sure what their fates were. But you were given a glimpse of each of them being alive, with Michonne looking for Rick which is the lead into this one. I thought this spinoff started off strong but then the drama took over. The action portions revolved around Rick attempting to get away from the CRM (Civic Republic Military). I read this was intended to be a full-length movie at one point and got reduced to a mini-series. I am not sure if that ended up good or bad. You can tell they are in no way done with these characters though. The show itself felt very rushed and it really was apparent in a disappointing finale. I understand that many were big fans of the romance but there is a whole lot of kissing, much more than is necessary going on to the point of distraction. That may lead to people saying that this is the best of the offshoot shows that popped up but in my opinion, that just isn't the case. Still, fans of TWD will eat this one up (pun intended) and even if it is considerably a step down from the main product, that is well above average for any TV show out there.

You can check this one out on various streamers tied to AMC+ right now.
