White Men Can't Jump (1992)

My quick rating - 6,9/10. I had to cleanse my mind of that horrendous remake from a couple of days ago as a reminder of how much better the original was. Plus I didn't have this one in my collection and an unrated version may have some extra scenes I haven't checked out. The opening scene already sets the stage for everything the Hulu retread is missing. The CON was essential to the entertainment of this whole flick. White Men Can't Jump is a classic sports comedy that still holds up well today. Released in 1992, this film outshines its recent remake by highlighting its exceptional casting, the chemistry between the actors, and an entertaining storyline that captures the essence of the game. Basically, everything that remake was sorely lacking. One of the strongest aspects of this flick is its exceptional casting. The film stars Wesley Snipes and Woody Harrelson in the lead roles, and their on-screen chemistry is undeniable. They bring their characters to life with charisma and authenticity, making the interactions between their respective characters feel genuine and entertaining. Their performances contribute significantly to the film's overall success and staying power. Furthermore, the chemistry between the actors is a testament to the superior quality of the original flick. The dynamic between Snipes' street-smart Sidney Deane and Harrelson's Billy Hoyle, a hustling basketball duo, forms the heart of the movie. Their banter, camaraderie, and competitive spirit add depth to the story, making it not just about basketball but also about friendship and personal growth. In terms of the basketball sequences, it captures the essence of the game and presents it in an entertaining and engaging manner. The film successfully blends comedy and sports, creating a balance that keeps you invested throughout. Whether you're a basketball fan or not, the movie manages to keep you entertained with its clever dialogue and exciting on-court action. While the original isn't without its flaws, its strengths overshadow them. With its memorable characters, witty humor, and a story that remains engaging even after all these years, this film proves to be superior to its recent remake. If you're looking for a fun and entertaining sports comedy that still holds up, I highly recommend giving this one a look especially if you just endured the 2023 steaming pile of... As I mentioned an unrated version, it's worth noting that the movie was officially released with an R rating, and I didn't pick up any glaring additions to this.

You can check this one out on most streamers including Amazon.
