Who Invited Them (2022)

Updated: Jan 28, 2023

My quick rating - 5,0/10. Not sure why this is billed as comedy/horror since there is not entirely enough of either of those things to qualify it for that. This is your prime example of doing just enough to make a passable thriller that you aren't going to complain about but still aren't telling your friends to check out. This flick ended and I said, "That was a pretty good made for TV movie." That is about the extent of the feeling it conveyed. Our writer/director Duncan Birmingham takes entirely to long to explain why we have a case of guests that are overstaying their welcome. For the majority of the flick, you aren't even aware of this being a home invasion film. And by the time it becomes one, the homeowners make such stupid decisions, you won't much care if they live or die. Then again, basically every character in this flick is so plain jane that I doubt you'll have any feelings for any of them either way. The closest person to having any developed personality is a guest who leaves early from the party, and takes entirely too long to re-emerge to be a part of the finale. The whole thing wraps up just fine and even for some unknown reason opens the door for some form of sequel. I can say it isn't the actors fault that the characters are so vanilla, it is just a lack of dialogue and situations to bring anything out of them. You know who to blame there. If it pops on your TV, you could do much worse but don't plan an evening around this one.

Another Shudder original so click below if you'd like to check it out.
