Zombie Night (2013)

My quick rating - 3,5/10. In the realm of horror cinema, there exists a subgenre where the bar is set low, expectations even lower, and yet, somehow, a movie manages to plummet below these meager standards. Enter "Zombie Night," a film that epitomizes the phrase 'so bad it's almost fascinating.' As the title suggests, the plot revolves around the classic zombie apocalypse scenario, albeit with a nocturnal twist – the undead only emerge under the cover of darkness. One might be forgiven for thinking that the novelty of nighttime zombies would breathe life into this film. Alas, it becomes immediately apparent that the most horrifying aspect of this movie is the painfully mediocre acting. Save for Daryl Hannah, who valiantly attempts to salvage the sinking ship, the rest of the cast seems to be competing for the title of 'most wooden performance.' It leaves you wondering how these seasoned actors found themselves entangled in such a cinematic catastrophe. Yes, Anthony Michael Hall, I am talking to you. The fundamental flaw lies not just in the performances, but in the utter lack of a coherent plot. You are left grasping for straws, desperately trying to understand why the dead have risen, if it's a one-night affair, and why the characters persist in making bafflingly illogical decisions. The absence of any semblance of an explanation, even in the realm of supernatural horror, left me frustrated and questioning the very fabric of the film. The film's saving grace, if it can be called that, is its ability to trigger the 'so bad you just can't look away' syndrome. It's a morbid fascination that compels you to continue watching, not out of enjoyment, but a bizarre curiosity to see just how much worse it can get. The absurdity of the characters' actions, coupled with the sheer lack of plot coherence, creates a surreal viewing experience that is oddly captivating in its terrible execution. It's a cautionary tale, reminding us that even the undead deserve a more compelling narrative. Unless you revel in the perverse delight of witnessing cinematic disasters, it's advisable to steer clear of this nightmarish endeavor. As you endure the mind-numbing ordeal this flick presents you'll find yourself haunted by a series of unanswered questions. Why did the filmmakers choose to forgo basic storytelling elements? How did the cast and crew genuinely believe this project had any merit? And most importantly, will you make it to the end without succumbing to the temptation to switch off?

Good choice of freebies along with paid streamers for this one.
