Zone 414 (2021)

Updated: Sep 25, 2021

My quick rating - 5,5/10. All you are really going to say at the end of this is "I have seen Blade Runner already." Aside from the obvious inspiration though, this really isn't terrible (apparently it more resembles some Issac Asimov book which I also haven't read called "The Naked Sun"). Guy Pearce plays the detective that is hired to find some eccentric corporate raider's daughter, played very well by Matilda Anna Ingrid Lutz. To do so he must go into zone 414, which is the only place that the humans are not allowed to live. This doesn't turn out to be quite as straightforward as he has planned and ends up entrenched in a mystery of what or who people are (robots, AI, all play a big role here). Pretty much the entire cast helps pick this movie up since even though the story had potential, they just couldn't quite fully hash it out coherently. I just don't think in the end they set out to finish this in the way they did, for whatever reason. The movie does look quite good and gives that cyberpunk dystopian world its own personality. Everything seems very drab with little hope. The future apparently is going to be very dark, all the time if we are to listen to movie predictions. The action scenes are well shot and don't rely on cuts and fast editing too much to spoil it. I would put it above average and is a good watch for scifi fans, especially if you liked those late 80s flix that flooded the VHS market for a while.
