Ninja Apocalypse (2014)
My quick rating - 4.8/10. I went into this one on the title alone, knowing nothing about it. I checked IMDB for reviews/ratings, but got nothing. Oops, the movie isn't out yet (check CNN for my ongoing argument about piracy as I am typing this). So, back to the movie, it is The Warriors meets Mortal Kombat meets the Zombie Apocalypse . Individually, all of those movies are far better than this concoction of them mixed together. Ok, I know that is a tough one to piece toget

Vacation Friends 2 (2023)
My quick rating - 5.4/10. We enjoyed the first one, so why not check out this sequel? Seems the entire cast has returned. In case you cannot see John Cena , he is there along with his crazy wife, Meredith Hagner (The joke is getting old, although Miz just used it last week on TV.) They absolutely wasted the ultra-talented Steve Buscemi and left him with jokes that, like most in this flick, fell flat. It wasn't a horrible sequel - it just seemed really lazy and uninspired.

Craving (2023)
My quick rating - 3.6/10. The action is absolutely cringe in this one. Acting is about the same level as well. I really don't like it when movies of this caliber try to play it seriously, since they lose all ability to be entertaining. Felissa Rose is always a welcome addition to a horror flick, and as usual, is the highlight. Those are my random thoughts during the flick. As far as the story goes, it isn't the worst setup I have seen before. After a drug deal goes south, fo

Spirit Of Fear (2023)
My quick rating - 3.4/10. I like the poster LOL. That image is a hell of a lot more frightening than this one-man show with Christopher Lee Page wandering around his house, finding notes it seems he wrote to himself ( Memento , anyone?). The story is that he wakes in an empty suburban house with no memory and blood smeared on his arm. As he frantically washes off the blood, he discovers that it is not his. He finds sticky notes around the house that read: "Don't stay in th

Three Extremes (2004)
My quick rating - 6.5/10. Three Extremes is actually 3 unique stories released as one film. Each story represents a different "idea," so to speak. Without going into detail per story, each is crafted exceptionally well in all aspects of true film. Granted, this is a foreign movie, so it is subtitled (the version I saw), but this does not distract from the acting in the slightest. The acting in "Cut" stood out most to me as the crazy man slowly fell apart throughout his hostag

Kill Shot (2023)
My quick rating - 3.9/10. If “high-octane thrill ride” was the mission statement for Kill Shot, then somewhere along the way, the engine stalled, and someone forgot to hire a stunt coordinator. What we’re left with is a movie that sounds like a good time on paper. Terrorists posing as hunters are tracking down $100 million lost in a plane crash. Instead, it plays out like a forgotten late-night cable filler from the early 2000s. Kill Shot kicks things off with that premise, w

Insidious: The Red Door (2023)
My quick rating - 5.6/10. Anticlimactic ending (that was my one comment at the end.) Insidious: The Red Door marks a change for the long-running horror franchise, as Patrick Wilson directs for the first time while series creator James Wan remains involved as a producer. It’s a natural evolution considering Wilson has been the backbone of the series from the beginning, and The Red Door looks to put the lid on the Lambert saga by dragging them, once again, into the dark re

Hidden Strike (2023)
My quick rating - 5.8/10. Always been a huge fan of Jackie Chan long before he made it over to the USA with Rumble in the Bronx . Unfortunately, I can't see John Cena , so I'm not sure how he is LOL. Hidden Strike tries to take the idea of adrenaline-fueled action to the next level in a way that's almost reminiscent of a comic book come to life. The unique pairing and non-stop action scenes almost make it achieve its purpose. Almost. Set against the backdrop of a China-run

Gore Theatre 2 (2019)
My quick rating - 1.9/10. I am going out on a limb and assuming not seeing the first of these won't much matter LOL. It is looking to be an anthology of flix with the host being some dude's head announcing them. This first clip is trying to make you believe it is found footage of a snuff film. Not in the slightest convincing or gross. If it stays this bad, I'll comment live through it. I am noticing a theme here. Very amateur, which makes sense if you look at the poster below

The Hopewell Haunting (2023)
My quick rating - 5.2/10. Some nice camerawork. Definitely took the less is more approach and used the lighting & sound effects to try and create tension. The Hopewell Haunting revolves around a skeptical and apprehensive preacher ( Ted Ferguson ) hired for a spine-chilling investigation of an ancient, decrepit house. The result is a haunting story that balances suspense, atmosphere, and character development. The preacher's reactions are pretty amusing as the homeowners con

Sympathy For The Devil (2023)
My quick rating - 5.9/10. It finally looks like Nicolas Cage is clawing his way back into serious territory with Sympathy for the Devil , arriving right on the heels of the wildly entertaining Renfield . For a while there, I thought Cage ’s legendary intensity had been buried under a mountain of quick-paycheck projects, so seeing him turn in a committed, high-energy performance here made me sigh in relief. His latest thriller delivers a tense, claustrophobic ride that mostly

Transformers: Rise Of The Beasts (2023)
My quick rating - 6.3/10. I am always game for some good, mindless action. And the latest in the franchise, Transformers: Rise Of The Beasts , delivers a fresh take on the iconic universe that should please long-time fans and newcomers alike. Deciding to go with less established actors instead of more familiar ones was bold, and it still finds a way to lift itself up via an interesting storyline and outstanding special effects. It also takes a bold step by minimizing the role

Cobweb (2023)
My quick rating - 6.4/10. Hey, look, it is Homelander ( Antony Starr ) as the father in this flick. I definitely can relate to sibling rivalry, but this is to the extreme LOL. Cobweb is a chilling journey seen through the eyes of an eight-year-old kid named Peter ( Woody Norman ) , who has his life turned upside down by a harmless tapping noise. This psychological horror movie, directed by first-time feature film director Samuel Bodin , blends creepy atmosphere, a mysteriou

The Bigfoot Trap (2023)
My quick rating - 4.7/10. I was hoping to get a unique twist on the classic Bigfoot legend, offering a blend of crime and maybe a bit of horror. The Bigfoot Trap attempts to blend the fascinating world of tabloid journalism, urban legends, and the lengths people will go to create a compelling story. The plot centers around a tabloid journalist, played by Tyler Weisenauer , who embarks on a journey to rural America to investigate a man's ambitious quest to capture the elusive

The Flash (2023)
My quick rating - 6.5/10. Let’s just get this out of the way first, that CGI baby-in-the-microwave sequence looks rough. Like, “$220 million budget and still can’t beat the infamous dancing baby GIF” rough. It’s front and center, which isn't the confidence boost I wanted at the start of this long-awaited DC movie. Sadly, that moment ends up being a pretty accurate preview of The Flash as a whole. Occasionally fun, but wildly inconsistent. Directed by Andy Muschietti, The Flas

Troma's War (1988)
My quick rating - 5.5/10. I haven't watched or owned this one in years, so time for a refresher. The setup is a plane crashing on some remote island, and in out-of-character fashion, instead of some cheesy prop to show the plane's descent to doom, it is all done dark screen and via audio. But in typical Troma style, the cast of characters is a variety of weirdos that can overact with the best of them. Well, the island seems to be inhabited by mercenaries from all over the gl

Dampyr (2022)
My quick rating - 5.3/10. I am always interested in seeing other countries' versions of classic horror themes, such as "vampires." This one looks at a modern Italian tale of a half-human and half-vampire called a Dampyr . Being set during the Balkan wars was an interesting touch to add to the war of humans vs. vampires. Unfortunately, this is a very inconsistent movie. Sequel setup? They might want to see how well this one is received. Harlan Draka, played by Wade Briggs ,
