A Town Full Of Ghosts (2023)
My quick rating - 3.6/10. Looks like another found footage gem. As always, I watch everything so you don't have to. If nothing else, the location of an old ghost town is interesting. Isaac Rodriguez doesn't seem to want this genre of filming to die since he just released Last Radio Call the previous year using the same handi-cam approach. He also must've just seen The Shining recently since this movie "borrows" heavily from it. I think the fact that the flick is brought to us

Compound Fracture (2013)
My quick rating - 5.2/10. Nice to see Tyler Mane in a role other than his typecast fare. You know him (sorta) as Sabretooth or Michael Myers, but here, Tyler shows he can act, along with writing and producing. Michael receives a frantic call from his estranged, eccentric (and extremely paranoid) father, Gary (Muse Watson), who is obsessed with building an unassailable compound. Once they arrive at Gary’s modest home, surrounded by acres and acres of grounds full of cameras an

Killer Kites (2023)
My quick rating - 3.2/10. I read something about this one a while ago, time to see why I had it on Radarr for so long. Never mind the obvious low budget. The editing in this is horrible. Some of it is literally pressing the pause/play button on the video camera. I am also quite sure much of the dialogue is improvised, and this group isn't really witty enough to pull that off. The scary thing is, during the credits, there are some outtakes that prove that at least some of the

Cabin Girl (2023)
My quick rating - 4.3/10. Cabin Girl looked like it had the ingredients for a fun little supernatural mystery. We've got the creepy isolated cabin. Strange small-town vibes. Check. And a lead character poking around where she probably shouldn’t. You know, the kind of setup where common sense packs its bags and has left the building before the opening credits. Unfortunately, while the movie starts with some promise, I ended up guessing the big reveal way too early. Once that h

The Blackwell Ghost (2017)
My quick rating - 3.6/10. I watched the third one the other night and wasn't impressed (REVIEW). I am only watching the first one because I should at least give it a chance, and it is under an hour. Turner Clay decided to prove ghosts exist after being a successful director of zombie flicks (look that up, his movies sucked and bombed beyond belief.) In other words, he had to come up with something to change career paths, and this is it. I know I have already seen by far the m

Captive (2023)
My quick rating - 3.7/10. Just a great poster, combined with a familiar name, can work for me, and this time, Captive (2023) did just that. Put Scout Taylor-Compton in a horror comedy scenario about some stoners sneaking into a house and finding a strange captive in the basement? Yeah, that should be a recipe for chaos, laughs, and at least a few “oh damn” moments. Instead, it’s more like a recipe where someone forgot half the ingredients…and nearly burned what was left. The

Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse (2023)
My quick rating - 7.9/10. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse somehow takes everything the first movie did brilliantly and says, “Cool, but what if we turned the dial so hard it snapped off?” The animation here is flat-out insane. Already, I was impressed by the first movie, but what this sequel does is somehow take it up a notch, making the first one seem like nothing compared to it. Every shot would seem like it belongs in an art gallery if there were any that display comic

The Green Inferno (2013)
My quick rating - 6.4/10. After years of problems with legal, money, distribution, and who knows what else, this movie is finally out and viewable to the masses. So the big question is "Can Eli Roth bring us something worth all the hype?" My answer is Yes, but not a yes with all capital letters. Let me explain quickly. The movie is an homage to Cannibal Holocaust , which is a flick that came out and was so disturbing, violent, and original (the actual first found footage mo

Murdercise (2023)
My quick rating - 3.9/10. I keep seeing people saying this one isn't as bad as it sounds on Twitter so I'll be the judge of that. They wasted no time in giving us a gratuitous boob shot. 80s slasher is on its way for sure. This cheeky nod to 80s slasher films serves as a wink to the past, showcasing the director's intention to both pay homage and deconstruct the genre's clichés. The acting is on another level of terrible to the point I am pretty sure they are purposely being

The Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023)
My quick rating - 6.7/10. I figured that The Super Mario Bros. Movie would be one of those adaptations that is either completely full of nostalgia magic or a complete flaming blue shell disaster. It is surprising to me, however, that it did not induce me to throw my remote control (or, for the gamers in the room, the controller) at the wall, yet it is a fun ride through the Mushroom Kingdom. It starts off with the usual Brooklyn fare, with Mario and Luigi being two plumbers

Ninja Apocalypse (2014)
My quick rating - 4.8/10. I went into this one on the title alone, knowing nothing about it. I checked IMDB for reviews/ratings, but got nothing. Oops, the movie isn't out yet (check CNN for my ongoing argument about piracy as I am typing this). So, back to the movie, it is The Warriors meets Mortal Kombat meets the Zombie Apocalypse . Individually, all of those movies are far better than this concoction of them mixed together. Ok, I know that is a tough one to piece toget

Vacation Friends 2 (2023)
My quick rating - 5.4/10. We enjoyed the first one, so why not check out this sequel? Seems the entire cast has returned. In case you cannot see John Cena , he is there along with his crazy wife, Meredith Hagner (The joke is getting old, although Miz just used it last week on TV.) They absolutely wasted the ultra-talented Steve Buscemi and left him with jokes that, like most in this flick, fell flat. It wasn't a horrible sequel - it just seemed really lazy and uninspired.

Craving (2023)
My quick rating - 3.6/10. The action is absolutely cringe in this one. Acting is about the same level as well. I really don't like it when movies of this caliber try to play it seriously, since they lose all ability to be entertaining. Felissa Rose is always a welcome addition to a horror flick, and as usual, is the highlight. Those are my random thoughts during the flick. As far as the story goes, it isn't the worst setup I have seen before. After a drug deal goes south, fo

Spirit Of Fear (2023)
My quick rating - 3.4/10. I like the poster LOL. That image is a hell of a lot more frightening than this one-man show with Christopher Lee Page wandering around his house, finding notes it seems he wrote to himself ( Memento , anyone?). The story is that he wakes in an empty suburban house with no memory and blood smeared on his arm. As he frantically washes off the blood, he discovers that it is not his. He finds sticky notes around the house that read: "Don't stay in th

Three Extremes (2004)
My quick rating - 6.5/10. Three Extremes is actually 3 unique stories released as one film. Each story represents a different "idea," so to speak. Without going into detail per story, each is crafted exceptionally well in all aspects of true film. Granted, this is a foreign movie, so it is subtitled (the version I saw), but this does not distract from the acting in the slightest. The acting in "Cut" stood out most to me as the crazy man slowly fell apart throughout his hostag

Kill Shot (2023)
My quick rating - 3.9/10. If “high-octane thrill ride” was the mission statement for Kill Shot, then somewhere along the way, the engine stalled, and someone forgot to hire a stunt coordinator. What we’re left with is a movie that sounds like a good time on paper. Terrorists posing as hunters are tracking down $100 million lost in a plane crash. Instead, it plays out like a forgotten late-night cable filler from the early 2000s. Kill Shot kicks things off with that premise, w

Insidious: The Red Door (2023)
My quick rating - 5.6/10. Anticlimactic ending (that was my one comment at the end.) Insidious: The Red Door marks a change for the long-running horror franchise, as Patrick Wilson directs for the first time while series creator James Wan remains involved as a producer. It’s a natural evolution considering Wilson has been the backbone of the series from the beginning, and The Red Door looks to put the lid on the Lambert saga by dragging them, once again, into the dark re
